Project Description

The Liberia Urban Resilience Program (LURP) aims to improve climate resilience and urban living conditions in Liberia in the context of climate change adaptation, and to build institutional capacity for sustainable urban management. To inform the investment decisions taken in the framework of the project and to ensure project delivery, the World Bank mandated the Global Center on Adaptation and YMCA to implement climate-sensitive profiling and community-based mapping of 52 of Monrovia’s informal settlements. The community-based data collection and stakeholder engagement seeks to ensure that relevant, up-to-date and reliable data is available at the household and community scales to inform decision-making and design priority climate-resilient infrastructure.

Our contribution role was to support the design of the data collection methodology and tools (mapping, household survey, focus group discussions) by introducing climate-sensitive indicators at the household and community level, and to support data analysis and aggregation to draft a synthesis report. The data collection and stakeholder engagement process also resulted in the definition of the broader stakeholder engagement of the World Bank-funded Liberia Urban Resilience Program (LURP) project to ensure that the needs and priorities of local communities are taken into account.
